Using a limited color palette to explore shapes, textures, and simple compositions is a rewarding practice. Simple small paintings often become little treasures. I always find something new in the exploration and practice. It’s a place to try out various tools, brushstrokes and be free in expression with minimal expectation for it to “be” anything.
I would argue this practice is a necessary part of becoming better. By giving yourself permission to be free and curious, hidden potential is unlocked, and perfection is disregarded in favor of embracing “mistakes” as a part of the process. I love when art lessons become life lessons, too.
